OUR FIRST COLORED TEE!
The inspiration for this design came from another educator, stating that he needed more "education-based" t-shirts. We know what he was speaking about, but we went a little bit further, to really drive home the fact that education has changed greatly over the decades, and continues to change today.
Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board were landmark cases that impacted education for children of color across the nation, the latter eventually eradicating the former's "Separate but Equal" doctrine, and integrated public schools. This garment illustrates how difficult it was to be the first children of color to integrate into predominantly white schools, but the respect they gained by doing so.
It's never easy being the first, but that's what leaders do.
